green behind the ears
Computers are not new to me. I am in the generation where I can remember Atari even though I was only a small child. Original Nintendo was really cool during my childhood and each new game system just got better. We purchased our first computer my senior year of high school. When I went to college I didn’t need to have a computer to survive, I just used one of the many computer labs on campus, or my roommate’s computer. Now everyone owns at least one computer if not multiple laptops, notebooks, desktop, etc. Currently, to make it through college you need a laptop. I don’t know what happened. Between college and now, computers have taken over the world.
Since I used to be at the computer all day I would stay away from them at night. But a new world was been being built while I was away from the computer. It’s the virtual world and the World Wide Web. I’m so far out of sync with computer lingo, I feel like parent trying to relate to a teenager and I’m not even old enough to have a teenager! I feel like the oldest, almost young person around! I have no clue when “blogging” became a verb. I recently attended a WordPress word camp for bloggers and they were shooting out acronyms left and right. I was too ashamed to ask people what they meant or what they stood for, but after I got home I “googled” them. Now I sort of know what they mean. Since when did “google” become a verb?
I almost feel like I did when I traveled to China, illiterate but hey, it’s a learning process and I’ve started now. I know soon blogging will feel like second nature, but until then I still feel a little green behind the ears.
